Hey, it was a joke to developers. Of course, the “enemy” of mac developers is Microsoft. This graph was to innocently show that M$ would not be the target.

It is in fact a very interesting chart. What it says is, that Apple's goal is to convert ALL Linux users to Windows (as Safari doesn't exist for Linux), and THEN convert them to use Safari =)

The first part of this seams a bit optimistic, if you ask me =)

@mike: it's not a fake. Go to the webcast archive at: http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/d7625zs/event/ and jump to about 1:06 in the presentation to see the slides.

Actually, John Lilly's follow up is a better reflection of the complexities of the situation:

I noticed it too when I watched the WWDC keynote online (<a href="http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/d7625zs/event/" rel="nofollow">you can watch it here</a>). But they didn't forget firefox, they first showed a pie chart of the 'current' situation and than the pie chart of 'the future' (the one you can see in the picture). Here is an article on the reaction from John Lilly, Mozilla's chief operating officer on the safari presentation: http://computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9024941&intsrc=hm_list

Vlad, W3C doesn't have "official browser stats" (how could they?). You may be thinking W3Schools, and those are bound to be biased (even more so than web statistics usually), as the site is used by web developers or at least wannabe web developers...

The graphs actually animated from the IE/Firefox/Safari/Other slide to the IE/Safari slide, so it wasn't ignorance alone. :-)

I'd take it more as Firefox being utterly ignored and irrelevant to the point being made, rather than as a desire to steal their marketshare or to utterly destroy Firefox (and Opera, Omniweb and all the many browsers listed as simply "Other").

Still a bit rough if you're a Firefox fan, but a rather different conclusion all the same.

If you were a glass-half-full type you could be impressed that Firefox even got mentioned. After all there's not really much need for a pie chart just to say "we want to double our 5% share of the browser market".

yes, I saw that in his presentation and was pretty shocked. He even animated how safari takes over all of firefox's slice. Plus, the browser percentage statistics he cites do not evenly closely resemble w3c's official monthly browser stats. Firefox has ~33% market share, not 15%!
