“Often cast as the peacemaker in free software disputes, Bruce Perens is on the warpath.” — the only possible cause for this spectacular cockup from The Register? The Orlowski byline.
-
“The copyleft provisions of the GPL are a disincentive to creating derivative works, [and an] attempt to legislate sharing, curtailing developer freedom.” — local Java dudes not grokking Open Source or the GPL. Going to see if I can catch up with them.

Nice breakdown answering the necessarily cynical question: “How many pieces of silver?” Also notes that the promotion pact is exclusive to Novell for three years.

Java people not grokking open source sounds weird - is there a Java coder out there who doesn’t completely depend on a huge bunch of open source? Eclipse, NetBeans, Ant, Maven, Tomcat, Xerces, etc. The open source Java ecosystem is *huge*.
Hi,
I can’t figure out why the Register article is a cockup - can you explain please?
Thanks,
James
maebmij, Bruce Perens is definitely not known for being a peacemaker.
