Sent Scott a long
mail about the Planet code with patch. Will be good to sync up and then
track development. Totally embarrassed that Miguel had to remind me about
Monologue, because it was
the very first Planet ‘child’ aggregator. D’oh. Plus, I should be
reading it more often. ;-)

Very interesting proposed modules discussion going on. I’m glad we don’t
have any really troublesome choices like we did last time around. More on
that in a minute. It’s funny how around this point in the process, we start
seeing the seedlings of work coming for the next release. We have Rob and Anders working on HAL and GNOME
integration and Ray Strode who has spectacularly taken up one of Havoc’s
orphans, msm, as well as
doing the Right Thing by getting freedesktop buy-in on session management
interop – rock! I am hoping that by the time 2.8 rolls around, we can depend
on HAL, D-BUS, hotplug and friends being there to carry us off to Desktop
Utopia.

Just been thinking over the past week: I am very proud that I can go back to linux.conf.au this year, and say we
have two successful, high-quality releases under our belts. A few years ago,
that would have been a bloody miracle. Now it’s just business as usual. Yes!
